Planning your perfect day is exciting and can be stressful and take up lots of time to help you along the way we have put together a simple Wedding Planning Guide – we hope this helps in some way!

Firstly and most important…………..

Set your wedding date with alternatives should this date not be available at your selected venue.
Decide on the type of ceremony and reception you would like.
Agree on your budget.
Decide on the number of guests and draw your list with all sets of parents.
Speak to Sue or Sara at Your Exclusive Stay on help with venues.
Book a viewing at your preferred venue and discuss catering options.
Make an appointment to see the vicar or registrar to fix your wedding date.
Book your venue and things will start to fall into place.
Start trying on wedding dresses.
Do you require a Wedding Planner – does the venue provide a co-ordinator?


12 - 18 months to go

Organise your wedding insurance - compare prices.
Start to search for wedding services, photographer, (check that photos can be taken during the ceremony) wedding cake, flowers, table decorations, entertainment these can sometimes be booked 2 years in advance.
Choose your bridesmaids, best man and ushers.

6-12 months to go

Choose your wedding dress - allow at least four months for a made to measure dress and alterations may be needed so allow plenty of time.
Choose your bridesmaids' dresses, best man, ushers and other attendants.
Buy your wedding rings they also may need alterations.
Confirm your food and drink packages with the caterers or venue.
Organise flowers, including buttonholes, flowers for the ceremony and reception.
Order your wedding cake.
Book transport.
For church and civil weddings discuss what readings and music are permitted.
Organise a wedding gift list.
Have you decided on your Hen and Stag parties browse our properties for activity weekends.
Start looking at honeymoon brochures book early, if peak season, can Your Exclusive Stay help?
Order invitations and envelopes - you'll only need one invitation per married couple or family - plus stationery for the reception, such as place cards, favours and a table plan.
Order your order-of-service sheets for the ceremony.
If you plan to send out wedding cake after the day, order boxes from a stationer.

3-6 months to go

Buy going-away and honeymoon clothes.
Make sure outfits are organised for the groom, best man and ushers.
Choose wedding jewellery for you and your bridesmaids.
Choose thank-you gifts for your bridesmaids, best man both sets of parents and other members of your wedding party.
Allow plenty of time to have your passport renewed if you are changing your name.
Send out invitations - make a list of acceptances and refusals.
Finalise your order of service.
Notify your doctor, bank, dentist etc.
Choose your first dance.

1-3 months to go

Visit the hairdresser and take with you your headdress or veil for a trial run and practice your make-up.
Inform the caterers/venue of your final number of guests and names of guests staying overnight if required.
Organise the seating plan.
Have your order of service printed.
Check that the groom, best man and father have their speeches prepared.
Arrange a rehearsal at the church/venue.
Have a fab time at your stag and hen parties.
Finalise your honeymoon plans.
Make sure that your fiancé has organised the rings, his wedding clothes and accessories, the first night hotel and honeymoon.
Check whether you need visas or inoculations and order foreign currency.
Check your wedding clothes and try on the whole outfit, including headdress, shoes, underwear and jewellery.

1 week to go

Call all suppliers and confirm times and details.
Check if traffic delays are expected on the day en route to your place of marriage.
Send your honeymoon luggage to the reception or first-night hotel.
Make sure your outfit is complete. Wear-in shoes at home.
Have a final hair/make-up practice.
Remind your fiancé to write his speech.
Why not have a spa day to help chill and relax – have a manicure and pedicure – INDULGE.

The Big Day has finally arrived!

Check the best man has the wedding rings.
Decorate venue if required.
